Begin With the End in Mind - Set your Vision to Drive Short-term Focus and Action

When I help companies build their strategic roadmap, the discussion always gets to sales and marketing strategy. It’s all about growing revenue. However, to frame that up correctly, we take several steps that I will discuss over the following few newsletters.

We always start with a discussion around the end game. When do you want to sell the company? What is your valuation goal? What does the company need to look like at that time? How much capital do you need to get there?

Those questions create a lively discussion and a draft blueprint that drives action over the next year.

We then create quarterly goals for the next four to six quarters around revenue growth, personnel hires, and product/service development.

I encourage you to try this exercise.

Once that is complete, we turn to the next step – A Premortem. To be continued…

Thought for the Day

My friend George said a simple but great prayer over dinner Sunday night. “Lord, help us remember to have a positive outlook and that one of our main roles in life is to lift up those around us.”

That philosophy is an excellent motto for all of us.

P.S.

We utilize the A2B Playbook, our planning and infrastructure growth tool, to aid companies in the following areas

  • Helping organizations that recently raised money sharpen plans, set quarterly priorities, and enhance Board reporting and communication

  • Assisting organizations as they prepare for a transaction, focusing on messaging, communications, and due diligence

  • Helping companies that have hit a rough patch break through and reignite growth

We have had success in all three of these with multiple organizations this year. Let us know how we can help you.
